Goodbye to Geometry

It's time to impart your vast wisdom to those who will come after you. Think back on the year. What do you wish you'd known? What advice do you wish you'd had before you started this course? What would you like to tell the next class that will help them in their quest for mathematical excellence next year?
Write a short letter to those who will take this class next year. Offer information, suggestions and advice. Sign your first name and last initial. If you know a specific person who will take this course next year, you may address it to that person. Otherwise, address it to all future students. Be sincere and thoughtful. They'll appreciate and thank you for it.

Run while you still can!!!
If you don't make it out in time just try your hardest, study A LOT, don't get on Ms.McLinden's bad side(been there), and don't go out the window.

!!!!BEWARE OF PROOFS!!!!

TO Future Geometry students,
Here's some advice if you want to pass Geometry and keep everyone happy.
1. Don't read the whole class. You will regret it.
2. Don't start your homework in class unless you are absolutly sure you know how to do it, if you don't, you will regret starting your homework.
3.Don't go out the window.
4.Don't play games on the caculator unless you have nothing to do.
5. Study before each test, unless you are confident you can make a "A".

Overall, geometry is much harder than algebra, although the proofs can get very annoying. One more thing: if you forget algebra you are going to have some trouble.

All future students,
STUDY for tests and quizes. i never did because i never do and i got mostly B's on them. it helps a lot. also don't take advantage of ms. mclindens nice ness because she can really dish out the hw. in all this is a really fun class as long as you study and are prepared to work hard.

Alright, all you soon-to-be-8th-graders, listen up. Talkin' from experience, you REALLY need to take notes on everything. Even if you're the type of person who can supposedly remember everything you need to know, you're not going to be able to remember all of this. Trust me. Also, try not to spend the whole class period working on the previous night's homework. It's really great to be able to work on the current homework in class, so that if you have any problems/questions, Mrs. McLinden'll be right there to help.

Also, don't climb out the window. Just don't. You're lucky to have Mrs. McLinden, she's a great teacher and is much better than any of the other math teachers, in my opinion. Appreciate it.

Be sure to have a stack on notecards with you so you can take notes. She'll sometimes let you use them on tests, which is unbelieveably awesome.

All in all, have fun this year, try not to stress out (it'll make things muuuuch harder) and just enjoy your 8th grade year.

Dear Future Geometry Students,
Yeah, so, I'm really sorry... I bet you're all good people underneath it all, and you don't deserve this torture, but please don't make it worse for other students. Here's some things to do (or not do) if you have some bit of compassion towards other students...
~ Shut it. Really, just shut your mouth. Whatever amazingly stupid and pointless thing you have to say can wait. If your news is just too much to bear, write a note and pass it to your friend. I know what you're thinking, "Why should I pass a note when I can just SCREAM what I want to say to my buddy ACROSS THE ROOM?" Well, it's rude and makes you look immature. Passing notes only distracts yourself, your friend, and the A.D.D. people who notice you passing the note. Sure, you might annoy Ms. McLinden (sorry!) but at least the majority of the class won't be bothered.

~Think before you do something stupid. Before you do something you think would be amazingly cool and funny, stop, and think: Is this stunt made to get a few laughs, or to distract everyone and get me out of doing my work? Yeah, sure, a funny distraction here and there is great, but learn when to stop. It's just plain rude and obnoxious. Cheesy question: How would you feel if you were trying to pay attention and constantly had other students doing "funny" things that distract the teacher and cause a huge uproar?

~So what if you are ready to move on, others may not be. Yeah, all you supper smart TAG kids, we all know how frustrating it can be to wait around FOREVER for kids to learn a lesson we could recite in our sleep. But imagine being on the other side of this situation, with other students being rude and impatient while you're still confused. So try to be patient, and if you can't be, pull out a piece of paper and doodle, pass notes, hide a book under your desk, sneak some gum, do something that isn't rude and obnoxious. (Once again, sorry Ms. McLinden)

~You are not the center of the world, I am. Just kidding, but seriously, you should know this by now. Try to remember every once in a while that there are other students than you in class who might need help.

So there, instead of giving you a cheesy list of things you already know and probably choose to ignore, I gave you a bitter and sarcastic list...Which you will probably still ignore.

Anyway, enjoy eight grade and good luck with it all.
~Haley P.

Gosh. Geometry.

Well, it's prolly the funnest class ever.
You guys prolly already know that Mrs. McLinden is THE best ever.
I'm just hoping to have teachers like her later on.
Most of it, though, is prolly the people we had.
A lot of people are crackheads, but that was what made it fun.
I am going to miss being all in one room and cracking up at the stupidest things:D

Our class is amazing, I'm not even kidding.
Buckets and buckets and BUCKETS of amazing.
I'm gonna miss it loads.
This class and Mrs. Zuehlke.

Ahh, Mrs. Zuehlke
Yeah, for those in TAG English:
Good luck, man. Hang in there. You'll actually learn.

I wish I'd taken PreAlgebra before this though.
Because you have to remember a lot of algebra. Yeah, algebra? Not my best subject.
I think it might've helped.

Get ready for homework everyday.
No, it's usually not alot, but it IS EVERY day.
Note taking also helps, because there are alot of formulas and stuff, but it's not alot if you're looking at a per-day amount.

I know that more than the majority of my class doesn't study, but there are some tests later on in the year that you would have a better chance on if you went over notes and stuff.

You DO have some projects this year.
They're not hard, so don't worry.
Just make sure you're neat and accurate-ish.

I guess it depends on who you're learning all of this with, but Geometry was pretty cool.
At times, your gonna think "Yeah, 'cause we're all gonna grow up and build weirdly shaped houses", which I still do, but for some reason, you have to know all of this, so suck it up.

Besides that, I don't really know what else to say:
*good luck
*do your homework so you don't fail for being stupid
*study when you need to
*try not to be too unorganized
*And have fun with your friends

Okay, well, that's all, right?
Peace:D

Infinite Pleases and Thank yous,
Sabrina Nguyen ;]

P.Ssssssss
1. If this is the last P.S I'm doing for math, I'm gonna cry:[
2. Thanks, Mrs. McLinden:D You've made math a more educational-but-sorta-kinda-in-a-fun-way experience for me.
3. Best of luck to all you new 8th graders. Not just for math, but in everything.
4. I heart our geometry class:]]]]]]]]]]

Dear incoming 8th graders,

You probably think being an 8th grader makes you cool.

Geometry starts easy and gets harder, but pay attention and you can keep an A fairly easy all year. You are all smart obviously so don't flip out every time something seems hard. If you get all worried about it your attention goes from trying to figure it out to worrying about not being able to. Take good notes and do your homework. I don't always do my homework, but because I have taken good notes and I understand the basic concepts I can figure the problems out as I go along. Don't do stupid stuff and don't be jerks. It really bugs me when kids are really mean to people for no reason or people bite back at people without letting them say what they are going to say first. Unless its your friend... then give them heck 24/7.

Peace out... As always, drink your protein shakes, but its getting a little hot for cappucinos so I would stick with a Special K Protein water packet in an Aquafina or maybe a G2. You don't want to much sugar or you will start losing lean muscle.

Dear All Future students,
Geometry will be difficult, but you will make it through. Remeber to take notes and study in the chapter reviews. Also do to the homework, it does help. Don't spaz out when you get a project cause most of them are easy. I also want to warn you to hide your gum because if you get caught then its a detention. Athletes, you need to do your homework in class or get it from her early so that you wont have it game night. It helps so you can focus on the game and not worry about homework. This probably will be your hardest class. You may want to find a way of hiding you grades if they turn out bad from your parents just in case. lol

Hey Brent, my Filipino "brother"...

So you're going to be an eighth grader next year...

Nice...

Just do the homework, read the textbook, study for tests and quizzes, and ALWAYS correct your work to find out what you've done wrong. Also, you HAVE to make friends with any seventh graders in your class next year.

Just don't read during the whole class, study last-minute, OR jump out of windows (especially if class is upstairs)!

Geometry class will be different from Algebra (I think) and you will have plenty of proofs, theorems, and formulas to memorize. Just get the prerequisites (Algebra I) done and you won't be a complainer.

I'm sure you'll do fine!!!

Yeah...

Good Luck!

PS: I suppose this won't be the last Geometry blog post of the year, right???

so, if u r reading this, then u probably worked ur head off to get in this class, well, heads up, there's gonna be a whole lot of work.

Algebra... still need it
still annoying
still bothersome
u probably think that once u get in to geometry u dont need algebra cuz it's GEOMETRY and not ALGERBRA, but u do, so remember and review algebra cuz i can assure u that there r some algebra that u will forget.

now the window issue, well, umm... just dont go out the window unless you seriously want to get chewed up by ms. mclinden and mr. bsmith. u can go ask ms.mclinden about the rest of the story....

yes, geometry was probably one of the best and funniest class. probably because our class had some very hilarious ppl in it. im gonna miss this class :(
ms. mclinden is the awesomest teacher ever and she will make geometry somewhat less toturous than it should be.

now, on to the more serious topics. homework.
DO IT. DO NOT MAKE UP LAME EXCUSES IF U DONT. if u dont do one night's u will find that it is harder to catch up and will be more behind. plus, despite what all u homework-is-pointless ppl say, they help u understand what ms.mclinden taught u and to confirm that she didnt waste a hour of her life teaching stuff to kids who wont even remember.

proofs. if u hear the word, go dig urself a grave and wait for death. jk.jk. but seriously, they r COMEPLETE TORTURE. most of the time, u have to prove stuff that r sooo commom sense.

take notes. take notes and take notes. if u dont, one day that will kick you from behind. ms. mclinden allows you to use notes on some tests (i know, *gasp* right) so the ntoes will help you plus they make u focus better in class.

i beg to differ from what all of the other ppl. said. doing hw in class IS NOT bad. I do hw in class and i have a perfectly good grade in geometry. the only thing u have to keep in mind is that you actually have to know the stuff before u start on the hw.

well, that all i have to say. oh, wait, one more thing to add. DO NOT GET ON MS.MCLINDEN'S BAD SIDE. justin can be ur example.

follow the tips and ms.mclinden's instructions and u will be fine. seriously, i mean it. it's not THAT bad. :)

toddles, ppl

First off, I thought Geometry was a heck of a lot easier than Algebra!! I remember this time last year and reading all these blogs from Geometry students and it freaked me out. But I thought it was alot easier to understand than Algebra 1. There are always going to be things in math that are hard but I think Geometry has been the best out of them all. My favorite this year has been trig. It's really simple and a good quiz grade. :)

Tips:
-take notes but keep them all together and don't use index cards buy a mini spiral notebook because they are easier to write on and you won't loose track of them.
-Study!! Especially before tests and quizzes! I like doing the reviews in the back of the chapter because they have all the answers for me to check in the back of the book.
-There is homework every night but just do it because then your homework average will be a 100 and it'll bring up your grade.
-The projects this year weren't too bad and on the last one of the year where you build shapes inside a cube #7 is easier than you think.
-You still use Algebra in Geometry but it is basic Algebra stuff.
-Don't overthink proofs. They are actually really easy because it is just explaining how you solve the problem.
-Like everybody else said, don't climb out the windows.
-Don't believe Mrs.M when she says a test is easy (she thinks they are all easy and they are not!)I got my first B ever this yr. and it was because of a test in this class.
-Pay attention in class when you go over answers to challenge and extend problems in class because sometimes they end up being on the test!
-You may want to consider investing in a graphing calculator if you don't already have one because they come in handy.
-Go to tutorials. It doesn't mean your stupid if you go and most of the time it really helps.

Just stick it out and the year will go by extemely fast! It did for me!

In 8th grade take risks and try new things because it's your last year of middle school! ( Like run for NJHS Prez and take my place :) )

Have fun in 8th grade!

I can't believe this is my last blog after 3 years of doing them! How crazy!

Wow we have almost graduated!!! :) Yay!

Goodbye Geometry!

Good luck! Its challenging and hard sometimes, but make sure you take good notes and pay attention!! If you are one of the people that start their hw during class everyday and not even write the notes down, the tests will be very hard.

The year starts off easy, but then its just keeps getting harder. Good luck,

(I'm impersonating David Letterman)

Top 10 Things to NOT do in geometry class!

By the way, all of these have been done this past year.

10. Use textbooks to make a temporary wall so your neighbor doesn't cheat off you.

9. Run around the class crazily

8. Have a push-up competition in front of Ms. McLinden (while there is a visitor in the room)

7. Trip when you're chasing a 6th grader down the hall who just banged on the door and ran (JOSH!!)

6. Take the overhead transparency, erase everything it says on it, draw the logo of your favorite sports team, and put it on the overhead for everyone to see.

5. If you're playing baseball (don't) and using your textbook as a bat, accidently let go of the textbook and have it fly across the room.

4. Create a paper basketball hoop and have a 3-point competition during class.

3. Climb out the window, especially if you're on the second floor

2. Sing love songs from the 80's

And the moment we've all been waiting for.......

1. When you're playing poker on free days, fold with a straight.

All right, seriously. To do well in geometry, you need to study hard for all the tests, take really good notes (you can use them on your final), and ask questions if you don't understand.

Ok New 8th Graders here's what you have to do to make an A in Geometry:

1. Pay attention in class. Trust me. Mrs. McLinden makes the lesson easier and if you go ahead she won't answer your questions. Unless you're a genius, pay attention to the lesson.

2. Study for tests. I know this sounds cheesy, but they are harder then you think they are. And pay attention when Mrs. McLinden says what's going to be on the test.

3. Do the homework. Duh.

Geometry is harder then Algebra, but it's not impossible to make an A. And if you hated Algebra, don't get excited too soon. You still use a lot of what you learned last year.

A couple last things:

1. Don't go out the window.

2. Watch out for PROOFS! You will soon hate them like the rest of us!

3. Read Haley's blog and LISTEN TO IT!

Chaaru R.

P.S. Haley, your blog was AWESOME!!!

Yea...I would suggest to study ALOT!!!!!!! You are either super good at geometry or you STINK!!! Unfortunatley, I sort of leaned towards the second side. The thing is is that you guys are so lucky. If Geometry isn't your thing, don't sweat it. That's the beauty of being in TAG. If you stink at Geometry, it won't count towards your GPA in high school which REALLY matters. For about half the people in my class, Gometry just isn't their specialty, and they prefer Algebra. The other half is the opposite. But the most important thing to remember when you are taking this class to pay attention, take notes, and try not to goof off, which I can understand, it may be PRETTY hard since you have known all of these people in your class for 2 years and all you wanna do is play around. But TRUST me!! You REALLY need to buckle down in Geometry, it can be pretty hard ;)

The only advice i ahve for you is keep up with your work and GET YOUR OWN CALCULATOR!!!! it makes everything a lot easier

All students coming in geometry, don't do your homework during class and also take good notes. I learned that the hard way. Proofs will seem hard in the beginning but once you get the concept it will be quite simple. And by the way you might have figured this out by now, but Mrs. McLinden is a really good teacher, and is a lot easier on you than any other teacher you will ever have.
Oh, and go to tutorials before every test and quiz and she will always teach or help you remember exactly whats on the test, she'll pretty much tell you everything on the test and how to solve it.

Hi future 8th graders! All I have to say is make sure you have note cards to take notes on. Because if you don't, trust me, you will fail ALOT of tests.

Also if Ms. McLinden gives you an packets that you have to finish, trust me if you don't work your hardest on them you'll also fail those.

Oh...and one more thing...stay away from the windows ;-)

Ask Ms. McLinden she'll tell you what that means. (Also don't let her change the homework, hahaha)

Dear underclass[wo]men,

This is a heartfelt eLetter from me to you[lolwut], and since it will be an eyesore that you will, in fact, spend the next five minutes of your life reading; I suggest you get comfortable, because this should help you solidify your priorities.
8th grade isn't really as great as we make it look. It's exactly like 7th grade. Only, it's 8th grade.
Out of the two, Geometry is much less effort than Alegbra. Though I can say Algebra is more like when someone foolish wonders if nails against a whiteboard would sound like nails on a chalkboard, Geometry is more complex in a way that requires you to be creative to understand the content [easier]. Like someone who discretely reminds you that you didn't get any Valentine's for Valentine's Day.

But you guys will still get those FAT UNATTRACTIVE B's. BECAUSE APPARENTLY GEOMETRY IS THAT EASY, SO SAID US, THE CLASS OF '013?
Yeah.
Whatever.

DON'T be relieved that we all said your next year is easier. It's not enough to count 'til you're typing this for the [current] 6th graders.
DON'T not do your homework just because 'i don't GET itt'. What kind of pitiful grammar is that, anyways. You should at least try... IF YOU WANT TO GO TO COLLEGE...
DON'T think that calculator games are cool, or godforbid- fun. Just don't even THINK it.
DON'T listen to Miley Cyrus. Or at least, sing Hoedown Throwwhatever during class. Or anytime, for that matter.
DON'T pick on that one [or few] loser nerdy kids in your class. You're wasting your time. You could be doing your homework during class so you can have time to do your language arts projects in attempt to make them a [small] fraction as amazing as mine.
Uh, DON'T do your homework during class if you don't completely understand the content of the lesson. And if you 'think' you do, you probably don't.

Your minds aren't that reliable when it involves gauging yourself. Specifically, YOUR minds.

My class as one, DON'T jump out the window. Despite speculation of such [ahem] events, it does make you pretty beast... until some goes beastmode on you and closes the window on you. Then you're just a loser stuck outside who has to walk to the front of the school, knowing your classmates are all laughing at how amazingly talented they all are for being able to close a window. It all comes in timing.

Climbing out the window doesn't make you less nerdy than that one kid in your class you hate because their grades are higher than your's, or that kid that just gets you hot and bothered just because they are the medieval example of nerdy. You're still in TAG. You're still all ickle, nerdy nerds.
Like us.

You know, it doesn't really matter if you mess around during class everyday. Except middle schoolers tend to not set limits upon themselves unless it involves calling an abnormally greasy upperclassmen a word that must be censored for the sake of PG. And since you guys are all nerds, you can't tell when obnoxiously laughing and commenting on 'how the homework changed' isn't making everyone laugh along with because it's so ridiculously amusing, but because that's all they can do to restrain from dumping your head with a trashcan. Or dumping the trashcan on your head. Who's up for creativity. And messing around the whole class period usually involves you, at home, at 10:19 PM, wondering how to do your homework. And it gets you more hated than being the quiet variation of nerd. And it makes Mrs. McLinden dislike you. Which makes her feel the compulsary, yet unnecessarily urge to act rude to random kids in the class who just went up to her to ACTUALLY ASK a MATH QUESTION. Which is a question involving MATH.

Doing pointless things during math class for the attention is actually not worth it. And now you're like lolwut. Well if you disagree with me, think about what you'll remember about what you learned in math class back in the day when you're old, and out of college. Was that raspberry you just blew significant enough to be remembered when you're gone? Pitiful. Things WORTH doing during class would involve making a BREAKTAKING PROJECT [ahem Dragon] for your Geometric Construction project.
So it basically doesn't matter if you don't work during class, cept no one will really like you, and you'll also have fugly grades. Mmm, worth it indeed.

Meh.

Just remember not to give Mrs. McLinden too hard a time, you guys.
She's teaching for your sake.

And I don't think your little friend there can teach you trigonometry.

~Laura c .

P.S. Overall, this year was [kind of] a blast. Hope you guys will have almost as much fun as I did.

I sure am going to miss you guys. You have the strongest personalities I have ever seen. Use them for good, OK?

Dear future Geometry students,

Well...I thought geometry was pretty basic for a teacher like Ms.
McLinden, not too hard, not too easy. Except there are a couple of road bumps that you might hit on the way.
Proofs get easier (I won't scare you with what they are just yet), and it was towards the end of the year where I didn't have much trouble. But that's just me. If you were excellent at algebra this year, you may be in for the hardest course of your life in 8th grade (and vice versa: if you thought algebra was hard, maybe you'll get a break now). Or maybe you'll be awesome at both (or maybe not).
Let's see... if you don't get anything that's coming out of Ms. McLinden's mouth, GO TO TUTORIALS!!! They will get you out of your misery. Also listen to Dr. Burger on online textbooks (he looks crazy but he's a genius). You'll be using systems of equations A LOT, so brush up on that when you have time... umm. You'll get so much more done in class if you DON'T TALK! The projects are pretty easy...

Well... all I can say is what the other blogs have already told you, so I would be wasting my time re-typing all that junk. So now... have fun!

Angie C.

P.S. Dearest brother... goooood luck.

To Ms. McLinden: Sorry this is so late! By the time you reminded us the blog was due Friday, I couldn't go home because theatre prevented me from getting home before nine. But here is my blog.

Now to the geometry students of the future: beware. If you don't pay attention or don't take notes, you may think the homework is all fine and dandy until test day, then you're screwed.

Beware of proofs. They are sort of a pain and can be difficult.

STUDY FOR YOUR TESTS AND QUIZZES AND KEEP YOUR NOTECARDS UPDATED! You'll understand what I mean about notecards ;)

It's also good to have one friend who is like super smart that you can look up to for a bit of geometry advice when you don't feel like asking Ms. McLinden.

And most importantly, have fun!

Love, Ashton-Taylor.

Incoming 8th graders,

Geometry is, in my opinion, harder then Algebra. If you want to do good in Geometrey always do the homework (even the challenge and extended), take really good notes on notecards to use for the finals, study as much as you can before every test because no matter what you will never completely understand every problem.

Do not goof off too much in Mrs.McLinden's class. Don't climb out the window, don't talk during tests or quizes, and DONT CHEW GUM! you will always get caught if you chew gum and be stuck in detention.

Overall Geometry was a pretty fun class. STUDY!

Good luck,
Julia

P.S. Sorry it's late!
